Arabic language is an official language of 27 countries, and is spoken by well over 300million native speakers in a wide region stretching across the Middle East, North Africa and the Horn of Africa. It is also an official language of the Arab League, the Organisation of the Islamic Conference and the African Union, and is one of the six official languages of the United Nations.

As Arabic language is a liturgical language of 1.6 billion Muslims, and through religious, scientific and business terminologies, it has left important influences on other languages of the Islamic world, where Arabic is not the main or official language. All of these make the learning of Arabic language fascinating.

In our Arabic languages courses, students will be able to express themselves effectively in Arabic and engage in conversations and the exchange of ideas. They develop students’ insight into the nature of language and culture with the opportunity to understand Islamic societies through knowing the language.

Classical Arabic: Introductory

The course aims to enhance the students’ ability to access key sources of Arabic language. This module is focused on developing your knowledge, confidence, and all four skills, namely listening, speaking, reading and writing. In this course, Arabic language will be taught as a living language with a wide variety of academic and professional needs.

Classical Arabic: Elementary

The course aims to build on from the Classical Arabic: Introductory. This course will further enhance and strengthen the students’ ability to access key sources of Arabic language.  This course will offer a study of the Arabic language through the study of classical Arabic text pertaining to some aspect of Islamic studies. It will offer a solid look at Arabic grammar and morphology, and the numerical system.
